MUSICALLY SPEAKING - AUGUST- 2010
Dear Church Family,
Precious Lord, Take My Hand-written by Thomas Dorsey
Precious Lord, take my hand, Lead me on, help me stand—I am tired, I am weak,
I am worn; Thro’ the storm, thro’ the night, Lead me on to the light—Take my hand, precious Lord,
lead me home.
The words to this hymn came out of the deepest grief one could feel, the loss of his dear wife Nettie and
the first born child, while he was ministering to a church group in Chicago. Thomas in this grief wanted to return to
his jazz heritage and roots, but like a lot of us, I am grateful he returned to the one place that he could be alone and
call upon the Lord. The words to the hymn came out of a crying to the Lord, anger and finally surrender. As you read
and study these words you can almost see and hear Thomas’ cries to the Lord.
Read them over and over again and draw on the Lord’s mercies as you read.
What a joy it was to have Pastor Don Ledbetter with us on April 11, 2010 to share the word God had laid on his heart. It was also wonderful to have Mike and the group share and lead in worship, what a blessing they are to our church body.
Then On April 18, 2010 to again hear God’s Word shared in music and testimony with the guys from Crystal River. What a blessing!! Thank you to all who attended and shared in this special time. I was blessed by their ministry and I hope you were as
Reflect on these words, Blessed Are the Poor!!
I personally believe that hunger—hunger for more of Jesus—and unashamed passion for more of Him in our lives is the underlying note that you can not write down, but is definitely the continuing thread of the music of worship. The opposite of hunger—comfort, which Western society promotes—is disastrous when desiring to live a consecrated life.
Something to think about……………….
